German Trench Art Letter Opener
This fascinating artifact appears to be made of alluminium or similar lightweight metal, and was probably carved from a solid piece of material-(from a crashed Zeppelin or aircraft? Alluminium had begun to replace wood in aircraft building from as early as 1916)- in the months following the end of hostilities in 1918/19.
The blade is decorated with the words "Peace 1919" on one side, and with oak leaves and acorns on the other. An iron cross carving sits atop the handle.
In excellent condition commensurate with a hand made artifact.
