Early SS Dove Head Artillery/Police Sword

This early piece is a fascinating example from the early days of the Reich, being an Imperial/Weimar style artillery NCO sword, modified with the addition of a Third Reich police eagle pinned professionally to the obverse Langet, possibly used by an early recruit into the service who opted to use his existing sidearm until issued with a standard piece.
Dove head hilt is somewhat dull with age whilst sharkskin grip is complete with perfect twisted brass wire banding having no loose ends or missing threads. Obverse Langet has police eagle pinned through, whist reverse langet is stamped
"69.A.6.10."
Information which will doubtless pin down the regiment in which the owner once served. Triple etched blade is a little faded but has fine depictions of crossed cannons, armour, flags and floral designs. Minor rust spotting but no nicks or other damage to the cutting edge. Black painted scabbard retains much of its finish having one typical railway carriage dent to both obverse and reverse.
Remarkable piece with much to be learned from its history.
