Honour Cross of the German Mother

A bronze or third class version of the "Mutterkreuz" awarded for the successful upbringing of four or five children. Following the enormous manpower losses of the first war, Hitler was only too aware that a strong Germany would need a large reserve of suitable candidates for the Wehrmacht, and was keen to encourage re-population as soon as possible,resulting in the institution of 3 classes of this award in December 1938.
This example has slight age toning to the abbess but retains a bright bronze wash to the rear. Perfect enamel and a clear stamping. A short section of ribbon remains attached.
