Third Reich Police Bayonet-Weyersburg

This maker is not commonly seen on police bayonets and represents an early conversion from the Weimar period sidearm. Eagles head pommel has fine overlapping feather decoration and "eye" and demonstrates the usually seen minor indentations to the spine area indicating use as an improvised hammer. Crossguard is finely detailed having oak leaves and the number "19" to the reverse. Grip plates are fine stag, having domed rivets. Unfortunately the police grip insignia has gone to time, but would be simple to replace once a suitable replacement has been sourced. Period cut down blade is in fine condition having the early Paul Weyersburg makers stamp to the reverse ricasso. Black leather scabbard has the usual twin line decoration to the obverse with a reverse seam. There are a couple of random holes to the scabbard leather suggesting that the missing grip eagle could once have been placed on the scabbard ??? Upper and lower fittings are in fine shape and would benefit from some gentle cleaning as would the scabbard leather. Brown leather frog is the four rivet version having sound leather and stitching and would benefit from some leather polish. Overall a good example from a less frequently seen manufacturer.
