Third Reich Police Bayonet-Eickhorn
This bayonet is of the smaller proportion type and has a hilt made completely from alluminium. The detailing to the pommel and to the crossguard is excellent, having overlapping feathering to the eagle head and overlapping oak leaves to the quillion. The grip plates are very fine antler. They have deep, rich brown tones and good "grain". Attached to the obverse plate is an open aluminum Police insignia, which retains fine detailing throughout. Bright blade has minor loss of plating but has no damage and a needle sharp tip. To the upper reverse ricasso is the '35--'41 Eickhorn makers mark. A thick leather blade washer remains beneath the crossguard. Leather scabbard has twin decorative lines to the obverse with a seam to the reverse. This scabbard is still sound but has a crease approximately half way along its length. Upper and lower scabbard fittings retain all their silver finish and are still solidly attached with rivets. An obstruction in the scabbard prevents the blade being pushed fully home, leaving at most 2mm protruding.
Difficult to find variation by the best of the period manufacturers.
