German WW2 Customs Official Bayonet-WKC
This long bayonet (some 19 inches in overall length) is identical to the police bayonet but has no eagle device affixed to the grip. Eagle head pommel is well defined showing minor wear to the finish and with some little evidence of misuse as a hammer to the top and side. Reverse crossguard is stamped "22".
Grips are undamaged and fixed with dome headed screws. Wrapped about the grip is period Portepee having leather strap and slide. Crown and acorn are gold and green with a spiral green springy wire infil to the acorn base. Blade has signs of previously cleaned rust and is stamped with the WKC knight head logo to the upper reverse ricasso. Black leather scabbard has twin line decoration to the obverse with a seam to the reverse. Upper and lower fittings are secured with staples, the upper fitting having a matching number "22" stamped into the upper reverse. Scabbard throat securing screw may have been replaced. The brown leather "O" ring type frog, of the type often seen with police clamshell bayonets is in fine condition with no damage to the stitching.
A good example of a rarely seen bayonet type.
