Third Reich Luftwaffe Officers Dagger-Spitzer
Although not a particularly prolific manufacturer, the quality of Spitzer daggers has long been recognised in the collecting community, particularly with respect to their RLB offerings. That quality extends to this Luftwaffe dagger which retains an excellent finish on all its fittings.
Obvious hand enhancement to the pebbled background and oak leaves on the pommel, which really stand out on both obverse and reverse. Lemon coloured grip has toned lighter on the obverse from the effects of sunlight, and is tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire. Undamaged crossguard has an exceptional finish, with particularly prominent oak leaf decoration to the upper surfaces. Crossguard eagle is highly defined, as is the stippling on the reverse. Beautiful, bright blade has no damage and is marked with the large Spitzer prancing lion symbol and name to the upper reverse ricasso. Scabbard has a beautiful finish with exceptional stippling to the panels, and is complete with two domed headed throat retaining screws. Scabbard bands are secure and have beautifully executed oak leaf depictions.
Overall a splendid example of a second model Luftwaffe dagger from a far from common maker.
