Third Reich Luftwaffe Officers Dagger-Fridericus
Another unusual maker for a Luftwaffe dagger, “Fridericus” was the trading name for the firm of Gebrüder Wester of Solingen. Best known for their superb Damascus bladed offerings, this piece has a plain, bright blade with the maker mark “Fridericus Solingen” placed lengthwise on the reverse. Pommel shows much hand enhancing to the pebbled background, whilst the crossguard eagle has well defined wing and breast feathering. Ivory coloured grip has no damage and is tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire. Scabbard has some ageing in the surfaces and one small dent which has resulted in a minor split to a seam. Bands and rings are securely in place and well defined.
For the maker mark collectors, here’s a piece not to be missed.
