Third Reich K98 Bayonet-Coppel
By its very nature, finding the K98 bayonet in anything better than “average” condition is a challenge, so to find one in near mint condition with matching frog and regimental Troddel is virtually impossible. However, here we have an example of that very illusive beast!
Pommel, backstrap and crossguard retain all their “blued” finish, with no sign of period misuse. Pommel has been “waffenampt” and has an operating release push button. The rifle slot retains a white felt infil. Grips are securely attached with perfect, unturned retaining bolts and nuts, the grips themselves still retain the factory shine and are quite beautiful. Blade is perfect and still retains its factory edge, being stamped “44fnj” (Alexander Coppel) to the reverse and “4958” to the obverse. This number is also stamped to the obverse scabbard throat. Scabbard is totally straight without dents or any damage whatsoever and retains all its originally “anodised” finish. The ball is also waffenampt. Black leather frog is of four rivet construction and has perfect off white stitching. Wrapped about the frog is a mint Troddel having white cloth strapping, white slide, blue stem, white crown and acorn. The base of the acorn is filled with a portion of the white strap material.
Yes, it’s expensive, but where will you find another???
