Third Reich Junior Forestry Cutlass-Eickhorn
Super piece having the lightweight fittings we like to see on pieces of this era, having the classic Eickhorn squirrel emblem cast into the obverse ferrule area and a chamois cast into the reverse. Highly tactile grip plates are superbly fitted, having detailed acorn emblems. All the gilding remains to the hand enhanced knuckle bow and clamshell which has a stag depiction cast in. Triple etched blade is in excellent condition having very dark background to the hunting scenes on both sides. Minor age staining towards the tip. The ‘35-‘41 Eickhorn trademark is stamped to the reverse ricasso. A green blade washer is in place, beneath which the assembly number “348” is stamped. A near perfect, period subordinate forestry knot is in the correct tie about the crossguard. Leather covered black scabbard has twin line decoration to both obverse and reverse with upper and lower fittings attached by staples. Period frog is in fine condition, as is the teardrop shaped belt loop. The spring clip has lost the majority of its gilding but operates correctly.
Once in the doldrums, forestry/hunting daggers are once again becoming highly sought after, particularly those with all the accoutrements.
