Third Reich First Model Railway Dagger-Klaas
Whilst the designation of these daggers as Railway Officials pieces is still controversial ,it cannot be denied that these black gripped examples were issued and used during the period, and as such are both rare and highly collectible.
Fourteen leaf pommel has no loss of plating and retains all its artificial darkening in the background. The seven rib, black trolon grip is longer than that seen on standard army daggers, as is proper for the Klaas examples of this dagger type. Ferrule has lost some of the definition to the oak leaf embellishments due to “swing wear” from the very rare, original portepee which adorns the crossguard in the correct tie. This portepee has purple/black flecking to the strap, slide and stem. Base of the acorn has a purple/black twisted wire infill.
Blade has no chips, nics or other damage and a needle sharp tip. Some grey ageing is present in the finish which could improved considerably by some careful cleaning. Scabbard has some “train door” dents and minor loss of finish to the edges. Scabbard bands exhibit the appropriate Klaas “asterisk” and are properly fixed. Both side mounted throat screws are present.
Fine example of a rare dagger type, complete with a portepee which has substantial value as a stand alone.
