Senior Forestry Cutlass-WKC Model 1051
Though unmarked, (typical for 95% of this model) this piece is unquestionably Model 1051 in the WKC catalogue. ( lifting the blade washer reveals a knights head logo cast into the underside of the clamshell as confirmation)
The beauty and quality of all hunting and forestry pieces is far above that of anything produced for the NAZI regime, yet, despite being manufactured and worn during that time, they are highly undervalued and shunned by much of the collecting community. This WKC deluxe entry is typical of the state of the art left to us by the Solingen producers during the days of the Reich.
Celluloid grip has its six oak leaf and acorn depictions correctly attached, all retaining their gilt finish. “P” style crossguard and knuckle bow have high definition to the leaf decoration and once more retain all their finish. Clamshell depiction of a boars head within oak leaves is a thing of beauty, highly detailed and showing much hand enhancement. Guilding is 100% to both obverse and reverse. 13 inch blade is triple etched having crisp, sharp depictions of hunters, stags, boars and hunting dogs on a dark grey background, superb example of the etchers art.
Black leather scabbard has decorative lineage to both sides, with a raised join to the reverse. Lower fitting has highly detailed leaf depictions with a number visible beneath the staple. Upper fitting has a stylised oak leaf as a frog lug, and again has a number beneath the staple.
No, it’s not overtly NAZI, but surely everyone needs at least one of these crowd pleasers in their collection, and even the wife cannot fail to appreciate the craftsmanship displayed here.
