Deluxe Senior Forestry Hirschfänger-WKC

For those that enjoy the beauty and craftsmanship of the German Forestry dagger, this example is pure eye candy. Super deluxe fittings having astonishing detail and much hand enhancement.
Toning to the celluloid grips suggests ivory, the obverse plate having acorn and leaves of diminishing size, reverse plate having acorns alone. Guilding to the knuckle bow, cross guard and clamshell is 100%. Detail to the crossguard with its deer feet and hoofs is exceptional as is the hunting dog on the centre plate. Clamshell features reclining stag and does, and once more the detail and hand enhancement to the casting is masterful.
Double etched blade features typical hunter/stag/dog/foliage scenes, and has lost some of its definition due to being constantly removed from the scabbard but is still wonderful to view. The WKC “Knights Head” logo is stamped to the obverse blade ricasso beneath the clamshell. Black leather scabbard has twin decorative lines to obverse and reverse, with a join to the rear. Leather has some surface loss which could be improved with appropriate polish. Top and bottom scabbard fittings are held by staples beneath which a stamped number may be seen. Artwork featured on these fittings is exceptional, being hand enhanced foliage and oak leaves, the frog lug being a particularly well executed, stylised acorn and leaf.
Could modern artisans compete with this quality???
Fabulous piece, probably individually commissioned as a long service prize or birthday gift to a particularly well respected club member. Amazing.
