Third Reich Subordinate Forestry Cutlass-Pack

Another example of the amazing work performed by the artisans of the Solingen “cutlery” firms of the the ‘30’s. and carried throughout the Third Reich period.
This example is by the Pack concern, an especially difficult maker to find on a forestry piece, and is in exceptional condition. The brass knuckle guard, crossguard and clamshell retain ALL of their guilding and are quite spectacular. Close examination reveals the level of hand enhancement performed on the basic casting prior to guilding. Hard to imagine that the time spent on this work would ever be covered in the cost of the finished piece. Knuckle bow has floral and oak leaf designs to both sides, ferrule has acorns to the reverse and a hunting dog head to the obverse. Clamshell features a stag in full flight, astonishing.
Stag grips are perfectly shaped and have toned beautifully, oak leaf and acorns adorn both obverse and reverse. Triple etched blade grades mint, having superbly detailed crisp depictions of the hunt. The large format Pack logo of Siegfried wielding a hammer is prominently displayed on the obverse ricasso.
Black leather scabbard has decorative lines embossed into both sides and a prominent join to the centre reverse. Fittings are stapled in place, and an assembly number is visible beneath the staples. Upper fitting has a stylised acorn as the frog lug.
Superb.
