Third Reich DRK Subordinate Dagger
Though unmarked, two manufacturers have been associated with this Hewer-PD Luneschloss and Robert Klass, the only obvious difference being in the scabbard lower fitting, either press fit (no screws) or two side screws. Both makers offerings are fine quality edged weapons, although in order to conform to the rules of the Geneva convention a pointed blade was unacceptable, thus the squared off, “screwdriver” type finish was adopted.
Pommel without damage to the periphery or loss of finish. Bakelite grip plates in fine condition with apparently unturned securing bolts. Undamaged crossguard incorporating plain langet to the reverse. Obverse langet having a highly detailed DRK eagle with prominent swastica and DRK cross. Saw backed blade (supposedly intended for cutting splints etc in the field) in mint condition having full crossgrain and the patent marking “Ges Gesch” to the reverse ricasso. Black finish scabbard has minor chipping to the enamel finish and incorporates a press fit lower fitting. The black leather scabbard is of a design unique to this dagger type and is of four rivet construction. All stitching intact, and stamped “Carl Busse Mainz 1940” to the reverse.
Excellent example of this extremely heavy edged weapon.
