Third Reich Army Officers Dagger-WKC
Recently recovered from the attic of a veterans son, this “woodwork” piece is equipped with textbook WKC parts,
The pommel showing some age and wear, with patinated silvering, but much detail to the oak leaf pattern and the stippled background. The crossguard is in similar condition, having the WKC sharp beaked eagle with hand worked details to the wing and breast feathering. The ferrule nicely matches them both and would benefit from some careful cleaning to remove the dirt and grime accumulating in the recesses.
The deep orange grip remains in perfect condition.
The scabbard plating is somewhat worn with the addition of some minor rust patches to the edges. The thick throat is retained by a single side screw.
The blade has no damage to the edges and a sharp tip. There is some age in the surfaces primarily to the obverse. The obverse ricasso (blade reversal at some point?) is etched with the knight's helmet trademark of the WKC firm and the original blade washer is in place. Accompanying the dagger is a set of deluxe hangers having oak leaf embellishments to the “push up” lower clips, slides and buckles, and to the the desirable “horseshoe” top mount. Straps are a little worn in places but overall match the dagger perfectly.
