Third Reich RAD Officers Dagger-Alcoso
Finding a good one of these is becoming increasingly difficult, the majority had the blueing cleaned from the scabbards back in the day by ignorant and over enthusiastic collectors and dealers. This example not only has the blue finish remaining in the stippled scabbard panel, but retains all of the original varnish not just to the scabbard but to the crossguard and hilt fittings. There is no blade washer present as is the norm with these weapons.
Eagle head pommel remains crisp and highly detailed with just a little bubbling of the finish and has a wonderful patina built up from years of caressing by the owner. Off white grips are correctly fixed by a countersunk screw and have no chips or cracks, just a few mild scratches. The RAD “spade and wheatsheaf” emblem to the obverse crossguard is highly detailed. Crossguard has patinated beautifully where the air has penetrated the lacquer coating. Bright blade appears to be the plated version and is in near mint condition having no nics to the edges and a dark grey “Arbeit Adelt” motto to the obverse which quite correctly extends very slightly into the fuller. The Alcoso “scales” trademark is crisply stamped into the reverse ricasso. As previously mentioned scabbard is completely mint having small areas of dark patina due to air penetration beneath the lacquer. Both throat screws are present and appear unturned.
If your looking for an example to be proud of that will not need upgrading, this is it.
