German Trench/Combat Knife-ERN
An example of the knife used throughout both world wars by German combat troops, this knife is in remarkable condition and is precisely as illustrated in Christian Méry’s work “German Combat Knives” on page 35.
Blade is stone mint and extremely sharp. The manufacturers mark “ ERN. Wald Rheini.” Is prominent on the reverse ricasso, while “Rasiermesser Fabrik” —(razor factory) is stamped to the obverse. The ERN gruppe is still in existence, but began life producing vast numbers of razor blades before extending production into knives, scissors etc. A leather blade washer is present. Steel crossguard retains 95% of its black paint. Wooden grips are clean and undamaged, and securely fixed with three dome headed rivets. Black painted scabbard is perfect with only spidering beneath the surface testifying to the age of the surface finish. Leather belt loop is securely riveted through and incorporates a perfect leather cross strap.
An impossible to upgrade example, a true “time warp” piece.
