Third Reich Bahnschütz Officials Dagger-Eickhorn

A superb example of this rare dagger type complete with all accoutrements: hangers, belt loop and the elusive Portepee.
Domed, circular, two piece pommel has a mobile swastica raised from the surface and has no damage to the circumference. The lower half of the pommel, which flairs outwards to accept the top of the grip, has decorative lines which match the ferrule decoration. The black trolon segmented grip is perfect, retaining its polish which appears as almost a soft glow in the daylight-beautiful thing. The aluminum cross guard is a beauty having the raised open wings with the railway wheel positioned in the centre. As we see on the Eickhorn version of this dagger, the wing portion at the left where it comes out of the wheel has the well-known flaw in the die that for some reason Eickhorn never corrected. The reverse of the cross guard is plain and shows no wearing time. The “horns” on the downswept quillion ends are highly pronounced. A black leather blade washer is present in the lower crossguard void, which may account for the state of the blade; mint. Needle sharp tip, full crossgrain and with the Eickhorn 35-41 eagle prominent to the upper reverse ricasso.
The scabbard is made with a steel base that has been coated with aluminium to match the hilt fittings. The scabbard is completely straight. The lower mount features two curlicues in the design giving these daggers a unique look. The carrying bands have raised lines that are similar to the look of the ferrule. The steel carrying rings still have nearly 100% of the aluminum coating on their surfaces. Scabbard has extremely minor loss of finish to the edge between the bands. The throat is the thick style used by Eickhorn and has the single reverse screw in place.
Wrapped about the grip in the correct tie is a period original portepee having black flecking in the silver strap, black and silver slide and stem, and silver acorn having twisted black wire infil to the base.
Straps are near mint. Upper box clip retains much of its aluminium coating. Silver tress straps have the correct twin black lines and retain 98% of the plush black felt backing. Buckles and slides are oak leaf decorated, whilst the lower snap clips are pebbled and “push-in”.
Completing this rig is the correct period belt loop. This teardrop hanger is early high quality leather. The belt loop section is folded and stitched to enclose a uniform protector and spring clip in the lower loop. The uniform protector still has its green felt backing which has just a couple of moth tracks.
Probably the best 2nd model Railway Officials dagger full rig available anywhere in the world today.
