Third Reich “Partial Röhm” SA Dagger-Eickhorn
An excellent example of a “name only” erased Röhm dagger by the best of makers.
Solid nickel crossguards have deep accent grooves, the lower having the gau marking “Fr” to the centre reverse face. Fruitwood grip has no damage and beautiful grain in the surface. High neck grip eagle is perfectly inset, as is the SA rune. Blade has some age in the surfaces but some crossgrain is still visible. “Alles für Deutschland” motto is deeply etched to the obverse face, and retains all its dark background.
Reverse face has the “In Herzlicher Freundschaft” inscription missing only the name Ernst Röhm from the end, this having been filed away by the recipient after the “night of the long knives” and the exposure of Röhm as a traitor. The Eickhorn trademark is the small oval version having an enclosed squirrel with the serrated tail, situated close to the crossguard.
Scabbard has full anodising and much lacquer with loss of finish only to the top edge. Scabbard fittings retain their screws, the lower fitting having a small dent to the ball.
Finding original, period Röhm daggers in any condition is difficult. This one ticks the boxes.
