Third Reich Stag Gripped Double Etched Dress Bayonet
What an epic piece! This amazing artefact is as near to full mint as it is possible to find in today’s market having virtually no wear or deterioration to show its age. Plating to pommel, backstrap and crosssguard is stunning, probably the thickest coating we have ever seen. Pommel button operates correctly and there is red felt in the rifle slot and a black leather washer beneath the crossguard. Stag grips are perfect and superbly toned, and fit using screws and nuts rather than rivets, indicating this to probably be a product of the Pack concern, although the ricasso bears no maker mark.
Blade grades mint in every way, and is deeply etched to the obverse with the standard service time etch in an oak leaf box with a centrally placed eagle with swastica in its talons. The reverse etch proudly shows that the owner was a member of “Jäger Regiment 99”, in a box continuing the oak leaf and acorn theme shown on the obverse.
Black scabbard is perfect with no loss of finish or dents. Even the frog lug has more than half its finish remaining. Completing this astonishing rig is a dark brown dress frog having perfect leather and finished with a regimental portepee wrapped, in the correct tie, about its waist. This knot is a matching state of preservation.
If you only want a single etched bayonet in your collection, this piece has it all!
