Third Reich Municipal Police Clamshell Bayonet-Eickhorn
Aluminium construction of the type without the rifle slot, and liable to be an officer’s model due to its overall length of only 40cms. Very good detailing to the eagles head pommel. The crossguard has raised out oak leaves on the obverse, whilst on the reverse only the end of the quillon has oak leaves. The plain portion is blank as this was an officer piece which would not have had property numbers. Some very minor signs of misuse to the backstrap. The stag grip plates are in nice condition throughout having nice golden toning and also some brown colors to the grain areas. The grip plates are retained by nickel rivets having dressed heads on the obverse. The police badge is correctly pinned to the obverse plate and still retains great detail to the bird and the wreath. There is no blade washer, however this enables the casters mark to be seen on the underside of the clamshell, this being “E.W.S.”. Bright blade has little signs of age apart from a few small “nics” to the leading edge, all within 5 cms of the tip. The Eickhorn 35-41 trademark is cleanly executed on the reverse ricasso. Black leather scabbard has twin embossed line decoration to both sides, and a seam on the reverse. There is a small crease to the obverse but most of the surface finish remains. Steel based scabbard fittings are attached with staples, the lower fitting being a little loose. Completing the rig is a dark brown leather, “V” notch frog of the type most frequently seen on forestry cutlasses with a transverse grip strap (and worth a substantial sum on its own).
