Third Reich Rural Police Bayonet-Eickhorn

This very early and heavy bayonet appears to made of nickel plated brass, and is of the highest quality, being cut down during the early part of the Third Reich period after the centralisation of the police organisations. Use of this material means that all the pommel feathering and crossguard oak leafing is of outstanding clarity and crispness. As is normal with these non Officer pieces half of the reverse quillion is given over to an issue number, in this case “P.M. 164”
There are no signs of misuse as a hammer to the backstrap. Stag grip plates have been carefully cut down and refit using domed rivets which are dressed on the obverse. The insignia is the open aluminum type with eagle and swastika over a wreath of oak leaves. Bright blade grades near mint, having a blood fuller which extends into the tip. Spine of the blade is stamped “M56” this number being repeated on the backstrap. Reverse ricasso has an early Eickhorn trademark stamped in. Brown leather scabbard is in almost perfect condition having twin line decoration and a seam to the reverse. Scabbard fittings are staples in place and appear to be plated brass. Brown leather frog is a superb example retaining a lustre to its finish and having no loose or missing stitching and no damage to the lug hole.
Superb example of an early quality, reworked bayonet.
