Third Reich Hunting Cutlass-Eickhorn
This is the model 1692 as shown in the Eickhorn “Kundendienst”, and is a superb example.
Pommel cap is undamaged and has concentric line decoration around its periphery. Grip is a chunky piece of antler fitted perfectly between the pommel cap and ferrule. Centrally placed in the obverse grip is a correctly secured Deutscher Jagerschaft badge having fine detail to the mobile swastica and sunburst. Ferrule has matching line decoration and sits securely on the crossguard. Crossguard quillions are beautifully sculptured deer hoofs which show much hand enhancement. Fluted clamshell retains all the factory darkening and has most of the green felt blade washer to its underside.
Triple etched blade is in fine condition and retains all its grey background frosting, having hunting scenes to both obverse and reverse and oak leaf decoration to the spine. The Eickhorn trademark is stamped to the reverse ricasso. Green leather covered scabbard has some loss of surface finish primarily to the edges. Scabbard fittings have attractive age toning and scalloped edges but no damage. They are securely attached using staples beneath which the number “4” may be seen. Upper fitting has a frog lug in the form of an acorn.
The sheer beauty of these weapons cannot be overstated and represent the peak of the swordsmiths art in Solingen in the day. Underpriced and unappreciated in todays market.
