Third Reich Army Officer Dagger-Alcoso “High Lift”

One of the rarest of the army patterns being an early Alcoso having not only the pronounced “high lift” eagle on the crossguard but also an imitation ivory grip which has toned to a pleasing creamy yellow colour on both obverse and reverse.
12 leaf pommel has suffered no damage with only minor surface bubbling on the upper surface. Grip has no cracks or other damage and fits the oak leaf and acorn ferrule perfectly. As mentioned, the wings of the crossguard eagle are raised from the surface significantly more than any other manufacturers offering, giving rise to the “high lift” designation. Minor surface bubbling to the rear of the crossguard, and with much of the factory darkening remaining to the obverse. A leather washer remains beneath the crossguard which has kept the needle sharp blade in a mint like state. No damage to the edges, perfect crossgrain the full length and with a few minor rust spots towards the tip. The early Alcoso trademark runs along the blade consisting of the AWS “scales” mark and the script “Alcoso Solingen” name. Scabbard retains all its finish with fine pebbling between the bands and with with one very minor “railway door” crease to the obverse. A single, flush mounted, throat retaining screw is in place in the upper centre reverse.
A fine example of early Alcoso production.
