Third Reich Army Officers Dagger-Christianswerk
A superbly conditioned dagger by an unusual maker having the benefit of a “slant grip” and a mint blade!
Pommel has no dents or loss of finish and well defined oak leaf and acorn decoration. The pumpkin coloured grip has the steeply angled sections which define the “slant grip” variation and is in a mint state of preservation, being expertly fitted to the ferrule. Crossguard eagle is perfect with distinct eye and beak, highly detailed wing and breast feathering and a prominent swastica within the oak leaf wreath gripped between the birds talons. A leather blade washer sits beneath the crossguard which helps to account for the superb mint state of the blade. Full crossgrain to both obverse and reverse, needle point tip and faultless edges. The Christianswerk Solingen name and serving fork logo is boldly etched to the reverse ricasso. Scabbard has tight rings and well detailed pebbled panels. A single, flush mounted screw secures the scabbard throat in the upper scabbard reverse.
Fine piece.
