Third Reich SS Dagger Vertical Hanger

Another example of a very early, period, locally made vertical hanger for the SS dagger, designed to make the weapon less cumbersome when marching or carrying out field exercises. Constructed from an inverted “teardrop” shaped piece of thick, black leather, folded and riveted at the top to enclose an early, maker marked spring clip. A leather grip strap passes through two vertical slots in the teardrop. This strap is quite fragile. A single piece of leather is folded and riveted to the lower end to produce a support for the dagger scabbard. Completing the rig is an early black leather belt loop having a pebbled “D” ring sewn into the lower loop.
Examples of any SS vertical hangers are very difficult to acquire, and those made by local saddlers or leather workers (for reasons of cost saving or availability) offer a further insight into the structure of the Reich.
