Third Reich National Socialist German Students League Dagger

The German Students' Union ( Nationalsozialistischer Deutscher Studentenbund, abbreviated NSDStB) was founded in 1926 as a division of the Nazi Party with the mission of integrating University-level education and academic life within the framework of the Nazi worldview. Organized (as with other departments of the Nazi Party) strictly in accord with the Führerprinzip (or "leader principle") as well as the principle of Machtdistanz (or "power distance"), the NSDStB housed its members in so-called Kameradschaftshäusern (or "Fellowship Houses"), and (from 1930) had its members decked out in classic brown shirts and its own distinctive Swastika emblems and accoutrements, including the very rare “hiking knife” or fahrtenmesser.
Similar in every way to the Standard HJ Knife with the exception of the students league emblem in the grip. This emblem wiggles correctly within the obverse grip which is attached with domed rivets. Early steel pommel and crossguard retain most of the finish and have no damage. Blade has a short ricasso and a fine “Blut und Ehre” motto to the obverse and the makers mark for “Gottlieb Hammesfahr” to the reverse. Minor sharpening and age staining. A leather washer remains beneath the crossguard.
Scabbard has most finish remaining and no damage. Black leather belt loop and grip strap are securely riveted to the reverse scabbard. Grip strap operates correctly.
