Third Reich Combat Knife-Wingen

This classic Luftwaffe Kampfmesser is a fascinating example, not least because it confirms the link between the R.B. number (Reichsbetriebsnummer) and the Solingen manufacturer Anton Wingen, having the Wingen “standing knight” to the obverse ricasso, and “R.B. Nr. 0/0878/0018” to the reverse, this number repeated on the obverse upper scabbard face. Wooden grips are beautifully crosshatched to provide firmer grip and securely attached with flush rivets.
Blade is a superb, blued example, having very little wear to the finish and no damage to the edges. Scabbard finish is almost perfect, with no dents or scratches.
Completing this astonishing piece is a black leather carrying device which appears to have been made, in the field, from a K98 bayonet frog.
If you collect fighting knives, you must have this significant example.
