Third Reich “Social Welfare” Officers Dagger
These DRK Officers daggers have been divided into “Red Cross” and Social Welfare” types by collectors over the years, the former having rectangular carrying holes in the scabbard rings, the latter having round ones. The reality is that these differences are purely manufacturers variations of the same dagger type: the difference between the two branches of service is distinguished by the carrying straps only. (Both types available on this website)
Pommel nut in fine condition having no damage to the periphery and incorporating a tang nut cover plate having undamaged screw slots ( these slots are often badly damaged due to being over tightened by owners mistakenly attempting to rectify loose grips-this can only be achieved by removing the cover plate and tightening the tang nuts hidden beneath.). Orange grip in excellent condition and beautifully age toned. Crossguard retains all its plating and a crisp, highly detailed DRK eagle and swastica depiction to the obverse langet. Black leather blade washer remains within the recess of the crossguard. Bright blade has all its crossgrain, some very minor age spots and light damage to one edge which can only be felt with a finger nail. Scabbard has no dents or other damage and crisp, prominent pebbled panels. Carrying bands incorporate the circular “social welfare “ circular holes. Some minor rubbing to the reverse scabbard rings from period carrying-nice to see this. Both upper throat fixing screws are present.
A super example of the less common “round hole” DRK dagger.
