Third Reich Luftwaffe Forestry Dagger-Wingen
What an appealing design this is! Although designated a bayonet by the collecting community, these weapons were effectively a hunting knife worn by the Luftwaffe units assigned to protect installations within the rural areas of Germany. Stag grips are beautifully toned brown, and are correctly attached to the steel hilt by three unturned countersunk nuts and bolts. Oval steel crossguard is in fine condition with only mild age to the upper surfaces, and is stamped "224" to the obverse. Excellent blade has no damage to the edges, and is marked with the makers details to the reverse: "Ch.A.W." (Chromolit Arthur Wingen) and with the distributors details to the obverse:Waffen Loesche Berlin. The letter "H" is stamped into the upper spine. Black painted scabbard shows no age whatsoever. Brown leather frog is of two rivet construction and is in excellent condition having perfect stitching and all its finish remaining to the reverse, with some minor scuffing to the obverse in the area of the lug hole. Wrapped about the frog is a period original subordinate foresters portepee in excellent condition.
These weapons are superbly made and extremely tactile- having one is never enough!
